I picked the "Lost West Side Story" DVD today. If you're not familiar w/Buddy, there's LOTS of footage here. He's a bit older in this concert so the fire is not quite as bright as I've seen in other clips. I've seen some stuff from his younger years that's just unhuman. You can see some of that on here but not at all times.
The "Weckl commentary" is a bit mis-leading. It's not commentary for the actual concert but instead an entire seperate segment about 10 mins in length that's basically a compliation of Buddy footage with Dave talking over. Dave is very humble on there, making it very clear that he's not about to try to explain what Buddy does because nobody can. He talks about the "continuum" that Buddy seems to have in his playing. The fluid natural movement thing that Dave is big on as a result of his Gruber teachings.
I still find myself amazed by Buddies left hand. He just mastered this technique I've never seen anyone do to give him the ability to get multiple strokes with no effort. There were a few times when you couldn't see his hands when I really thought they should have been visible and that kind of frustrated me. Overall there's no shortage of amazing drumming on here though.
There's plenty of tunes and also some interviews from Buddy's wife giving what I thought was some interesting insight into the side of him that only she saw. At 110 minutes in length, it worth the money. Check it out here.
